Communication between the U.S.A. and Latin America : a case of cultural domination

Abstract

This essay examines the intense international debate surrounding the concept and practice of communication, particularly in less developed countries. It analyzes the confrontation between those who defend traditional communication models and those seeking to transform them, and discusses the challenge to classical notions of freedom of information and the right to communicate. The text argues that communication flows between the United States and Latin America reflect a broader pattern of cultural domination, and underscores the need to formulate comprehensive communication policies and plans in response to the structure, financing, and influence of mass communication media.
